Who I’ve Been Watching: MakinguptheMW

Image via Pintrest

Next up in my Who I’ve Been Watching series is Bailey from Makingupthemw (Youtube name: TheHazeleyehoney). I noticed right away that Bailey was different from other Youtubers: her channel is oriented towards affordable products (with a few high-end ones mixed in), and almost no MAC products. I know many viewers feel disconnected to Youtubers that use a lot of MAC (since it is a bit pricey). So if that’s a concern for you, Bailey will deliver!
There’s a lot of diversity on this channel: there’s in-depth product reviews, swatches, and demos (tutorials), but there’s also “speedtorials” (quick tutorials with music playing), 60-second product reviews, 3-in-1 tutorials (different looks using 1 palette), Top 5 in Under 5 videos (favorite products in 5 minutes or less),  unboxings, empties, and occasional hauls. There’s a little bit of everything here! She also experiments with her looks, doing a mix of natural and bolder tutorials. And Bailey knows her stuff: she was nominated for Allure’s Beauty Blogger of the Year!
Who might like her: Those on a budget, those who like short videos, those interested in product reviews/swatches, those looking for different looks with their palettes, those who travel a lot (Bailey does too and knows if a product can survive a trip), makeup lovers in general.

Urban Decay’s Pulp Fiction Collection Launches Today!

Image via Beautydea
In honor of the 20th anniversary of Quentin Tarantino’s hit movie Pulp Fiction, Urban Decay is releasing a fab looking collection! The five piece collection is designed to give wearers the look of the film’s edgy, intriguing leading lady, Mia Wallace (excellently played by Uma Thurman). From left to right in the photo above we have:
  • Revolution Lipstick in Mrs. Mia Wallace
  • 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Mrs. Mia Wallace
  • Pulp Fiction Palette
  • Nail Color in Mrs. Mia Wallace
  • Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Gunmetal
Honestly, I’d be willing to try everything in this collection! But I’ve scoured other blogs, like Temptalia and Phyrra, and the consensus seems to be that the collection is well done quality wise, and the look is true enough to the film. However, it’s not the most unique collection under the sun and most of the products are dupeable.
Urban Decay is a semi cruelty free brand (their parent company tests on animals). This limited edition collection is available now at urbandecay.com, and will soon be available at Ulta, Sephora, and Macy’s, as well as online on Beauty.com.

What do you think beauties? Will you be picking up anything from this collection? Hunting for less expensive lookalikes? Or is this kind of look just not your thing altogether? Let me know!

Model Monday: Abbey Lee Kershaw

Image via FashionGoneRogue

Abbey Lee Kershaw is steadily becoming a bigger and bigger name in the fashion industry. The Australian beauty with exquisite bone structure has worked with some of the best of the best in fashion, from top photographers to major designers and prominent magazines. Abbey has walked for Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang, Anna Sui, Chanel, D&G, Fendi, Gucci, Oscar de la Renta, Rodarte, Versace, and Victoria’s Secret, among others. She’s done campaigns for Gucci, Rag & Bone, Versace X H&M, and Yves Saint Laurent, to name a few. Some of the covers she’s done include I-D, Numero, V, W, as well as Australian, German, Japanese, Korean, and Russian Vouge. She’s been shot by top photographers like Hedi Slimane, Mario Testino,  Mert & Marcus, and Terry Richardson.
It’s easy to understand why the classic beauty has done beauty campaigns for CK One Color, Gucci, and Versace. In 2011 she was shot by Mario Testino to represent Versace’s Yellow Diamond fragrance. She looked absolutely radiant in Summer 2012 for Gucci’s Flora fragrance ad, then appeared alongside an all-star cast to shoot the CK ad for Fall 2012.

The natural beauty clearly knows her features need little enhancement, so she prefers the more simple route, choosing to show off one feature at a time. She’s also consistant–she’s been using Lush’s skincare products for 10 years. Abbey believes in the importance of natural products, which explains her love of Lush as well as Burt’s Bees SPF Lip Balm. But she doesn’t mind less natural products, either–she adores NARS Lip Pencil in Jungle Red, and nurtures her hair with Kerastase shampoo and conditioner.
Keep your eyes peeled for more Abbey: the photogenic Aussie is preparing to debut on the silver screen! Already a fan of Abbey’s? Let me know who you think I should feature next Monday!

FotD:Job Interview Makeup

*Photos coming soon!*

Yesterday, I had a job interview at a majorly cool restaurant in my city. I love the young, cool energy of the place, so I wanted to look fresh and natural. I relied on a lot of my favorite products to help give me a professional look (and most of them are from the drugstore).
While I love makeup, hair is something I’m less apt at. Since I applied for a position in the kitchen, I decided to pull my hair back into a simple, sleek top knot. I’m so nervous and excited for this job, so putting in effort to my appearance gave me an extra boost of confidence and one less thing to worry about during the interview.
What are your favorite safe for work products?

Model Monday: Coco Rocha

Image via cocorocha.com

Coco Rocha is easily my favorite fashion model. She’s so beautiful, poses like a queen, and can sell any garment or product. But what I also love about Coco is her infectious spirit and hint of rebelliousness–she’s no stranger to a gorgeous purple lip or super winged out eyeliner.
The Canadian beauty began her career in 2004. Since, she has appeared on the cover of Vogue, as well as five international editions, plus W, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar. She’s done ad campaigns for Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Lanvin, Longchamp, and Zac Posen, to name a few. She’s walked the runway for top designers, such as Jean Paul Gautier, Isaac Mizrahi, Zac Posen, Matthew Williamson, Carolina Herrera, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Christian Dior, Donna Karan, Chanel, and Versace.
She’s also crossed over a bit into TV, appearing on Project Runway modeling a contestant’s design as a challenge winning prize, assisting the models on America’s Next Top Model with a posing challenging, and mentoring a team of aspiring models alongside Naomi Campbell and Karolina Kurkova on season 1 of The Face.
So naturally, someone with that much star power has landed a few beauty campaigns as well! Coco has done beauty modelling for luxury makeup line Yves Saint Laurent as well as budget friendly drugstore brand Rimmel.

Coco has kept her laid back attitude despite massive fame, even doing her own makeup for several red carpet events. Being a model, she’s picked up tons of tricks from pro makeup artists like Pat McGrath and integrates them with her unique aesthetic. And to top it off, she has no problem sporting makeup from the drugstore. So what are some beauty products Coco loves? Here’s a few:

  • Smashbox Eyeshadow in Oyster
  • Maybelline Dream Mousse Foundation
  • L’Oreal Magic Smooth Souffle Foundation
  • Maybelline Great Lash Curved Brush Washable Mascara
  • MAC Technakohl Eyeliner
  • Lancome Effacil Gentle Eye Makeup Remover
  • Lubriderm Daily Moisture Moisturizing Lotion
  • Dove White Beauty Bar Soap
You can score Smashbox, MAC, and Lancome from any department store, and every local drugstore can satisfy your Maybelline, L’Oreal, Lubriderm, and Dove needs.
Sadly, I couldn’t find out the exact brand or shade of fabulous purple lipstick Coco loves to sport. But if you want a similar look, MAC Heroine, or limited edition Lavender Whip should get the job done. For a cheaper option, many have raved about Cover Girl Divine.

What do you think of Coco’s fierce makeup looks? And is there another model you think I should cover next Monday? Let me know!
